Flowers 101

. Make sure we have your date available.
. Have your colors picked out, and bring a swatch of the bridesmaid's dresses with you if possible.
. Think about your style - i.e. Romantic, Contemporary, Shabby Chique, etc.
. Look at magazines and web site pictures, and cut pictures of different bouquets/arrangements/ boutonnieres/corsages that you like. Bring them with you to show us.
. Think about your budget, and be prepared to give the florist a budget range. Most people are not familiar with flower prices, and that is ok. But, the florist will need to know how much is too much. This is very important, because it will determine the suggestions the florist makes. For example, if you request a centerpiece, and you definitely do not want to spend more than $50.00 on it, the florist will not make suggestions in the $100.00 range. They will stick to your budget as closely as possible, and give you ideas in your price range.
. Bring names and phone numbers of your other wedding vendors if you have them (i.e. wedding planner/coordinator, contact at church or venue, contact at reception site, photographer and bakery contact).

Flower Selection:
. Think about flowers that are in season on your wedding date. These flowers will be the most economical. Flowers that are out of season may not be available or may be expensive to get. There are flowers that are available year round.
. For bouquets, think about size. I always compare them to an Orange, Grapefruit, Melon, Volley Ball, and Basket Ball. The bigger the bouquet, the heavier it will be; so you will want to keep this in mind. Also, the more flowers you use will increase the price. You can ask about filler for volume if you like.
. Keep in mind that, in rare cases, the florist may have to substitute flowers. Mother Nature does not always cooperate, so you may want to think about back up flowers just in case.
